The news about the Rooster Teeth and Full Sail partnership made students extremely excited. The RT Family and their newest game department is giving the opportunity for some Full Sail students to work with the creation of a new game. On the last day of HOF 9, guests could join in a panel conducted by the co-founder of Rooster Teeth, Gus Sorola, who told the story of how he overcame failure and became successful. To tell us more about this remarkable company and event, Alec Correa, a current Computer Animation student was invited to share his experience on the MCBS blog.

What brought you to this panel?

I’ve been watching Rooster Teeth since 2003, and quickly became a fan, watching their content 40 hours a week, on top of a 90 hour per week job.

Getting a chance to see them again, with a chance with this partnership between FS and RT to work with them is like a dream come true.

What did you learn when coming to this panel?

Being a fan since the start of the company, there wasn’t much new information to be learned from the story, almost everything had already been said in a different form over the years of watching them. It was a good opportunity to see them and enjoy the story that Gus told about his journey. It is a great inspiration to know, even if people don’t fully understand what you are trying to do, to keep going and keep working at it. Even after failure one can’t stop and must keep working toward their goals.

Can you tell me their story?

A group of guys who worked in a call center wanted to do something more. They tried to figure out what they like to do and that was drink and play videogames. Rooster Teeth was not their first adventure, they originally tried first with a company called Drunk Gamers hoping to be given free games, though no one wanted to be associated with drunks. Rooster Teeth took off in 2003 with a series called RedvsBlue, which was a Machinama animation taking game footage and telling a story of their own with it. As time went on and they became more popular their talent pool became bigger as well. This allowed for them to branch out and create more content of all different mediums: animation, live action (series and feature length films), broadcast, live events and games.

Do you consider the idea of working for them in the future?

I do have a goal of working with their animation department in some facet in the future, to be able to learn from them. In all honesty though, I would like to create my own company like similar to theirs and become part of the RT Family working on different projects together.

As you can see, Rooster Teeth is an example for many students and people involved in the entertainment and media industry. In this interview, it was impossible not to notice how involved Alec Correa was about the opportunity to be close to them. This panel was full of guests interested in sharing their professional path to success. It caught both public attention and brought enthusiasm to the crowds at Full Sail.
