You're Right, The MCBS Podcast is LIT

You’ve probably heard about the amazing podcast that some MCBS students and faculty are working on, it’s called We Are MCBS. This is a show that airs every Wednesday, but because it’s Hall of Fame Nine, we’ve decided to air seven special episodes this week, one each day! How exciting is that?

The purpose behind the creation of this morning show is to highlight the latest news in the media industry. The podcast has a variety of segments such as Old School Update, New School Update, Failing Forward, I Can’t Believe That’s Somebody’s Job, and #BeSocialMediaSavy.

For this article we’ve managed to get some insights into the podcasting world and our very own podcasting team. Here are some highlights about what it takes to prepare a great show like the We Are MCBS podcast!

1. Organization is key: Scheduling is very important, both for the team and when special guests are set to appear on the show. There’s a lot that goes into podcasting, organizing the tasks and what needs to get done first is absolutely crucial. There should be a schedule with all the deadlines, and everyone in the team should have full access to this itinerary. That way we avoid confusions and we’re prepared for what’s to come and it keeps everyone on the same page.

2. Plan your content: We all know that content is the most important thing in every industry. Planning and getting the information ahead of time gives you room to be prepared, to explore, learn and dig deeper, and therefore feel more comfortable when you’re live.

3. Know your teammates: Sometimes podcasts are a one-man show, but if you have to work with a team, make sure to establish a relationship and a common goal. This will be needed when people feel under pressure and they need to be reminded of the meaning behind all the hard work.

4. It goes beyond the equipment: We’ve all listened to the famous quote, “It’s not the equipment, it’s what you make with it.” It’s been said so many times for a reason, one very simple reason… It’s true! It doesn’t matter what kind of equipment you have as long as you’re smart and ready to create great content. Of course we would all like to use the latest stuff, but hey, if you make it big, then all the latest stuff will come; but again it goes beyond the gear you have, and let’s remember that we all started somewhere, even our biggest idols.

Seeing the podcasting team working on creating and developing some cool stuff has inspired me. Let’s create and put out great content for people to enjoy, shall we?
