King of the Hill: Smash Bros Tournament

“How long can you last?” was the question circling around the participants as they signed up for the King of the Hill Smash Bros tournament. This tournament was for the casual gamers who just wanted to play the game and try to win some HOF 9 swag. There were over 70 participants in the tournament, but was a big crowd of people outside the Live venue. Monica Agatstein of Platinum Creative said,"Smash Bros has always been a super popular game for our community, we wanted to get the most amount of people playing." Nintendo, historically speaking, has always made great party games and games that are played locally around one monitor.

To start the event, all 70 players had to register themselves to be able to enter the tournament. They set up the button configuration of their controller, followed by the naming and choosing the characters that they would be playing. After the toons and stages were picked, the battle began. 4 players/toons began to fight for dominance on each screen where each of them fought to send the opponent flying off the stage.

King of the Hill is the single elimination gauntlet style tournament where a player can see how many winning streaks they can accumulate. The contestant with the longest winning streak wins the tournament. However, the game was not to be won without a twist! The host threw a monkey wrench into the game allowing players to put a bounty on their opponents if they had over 4 wins in a row. The twist was that whoever takes out the king with the bounty would get the swag.

Even though the battles were fiercely fought, the players still maintained a respect among themselves. Finally, after 3 players had won 3 consecutive rounds, Tariq Adderley managed to up his game and maintain a winning streak of 5. He was cheered and applauded by everyone present.=

"This tournament was one of the lighter events despite being a competitive one, the players and the viewers both equally enjoyed the event and that means another successful event!"
