Money management is a popular topic, especially during a student life. Most people struggle with loans, personal finances control, late payments and other concerns around this content. For that reason, the inductee Fernando Delgado at this panel shared some advices and personal experiences to help the guests to save money and avoid common mistakes, in order to live a calmer life without worrying so much about the debits.

Fernando Delgado is the owner of the company Stickman Sound. He graduated from the Recording Arts Program at Full Sail University in 1997. He works at producing different types of entertainment media such as reality shows, motion pictures, commercials and live sports.

In this interview, he stated to Pat Bishop that money management is a subject that he is passionate about. According to him “especially when you are really young you just see the up side, you don’t calculate the risks that is involved.” Delgado recounts his biggest mistake, which was when he was younger he borrowed money to buy a bunch of equipment believing it was a good investment and later on he didn’t have the money to pay it back. Because of that, his first tip is to not borrow money.

"Thinking twice before buying any product or service was his second advice."

Fernando said that it’s important to ask yourself if the thing you are planning to purchase is needed, and if you can afford it. Analyzing your expenses closely is essential for saving money on irrelevant things. “Be patient, don’t buy until you are ready,” he said.

In addition, he pointed out that cutting up credit cards and closing all his accounts, helped him to manage his money, and he suggested the participants to do the same. Explaining that when you pay everything in cash you have more control of your finances, because you feel better about the amount of money you are spending.

A very smart tip he shared with the audience is to rent equipment instead of buying it, considering that a better version of the equipment pops up so fast. Despite just saving money, you can also try the materials first and chose to use the best ones without any regret for buying one that isn’t worthy.

Finally, he answered some questions from the students about investments, business planning, calculating a budget and how to start a company. He explained that your best financial security is your economic education.
