Being a Full Sail student means capitalizing on every chance you have to learn. What better way to do that than by looking at past Hall of Fame 7 panels! There were actually quite a few panels that would help students in the Media Communications degree program.
The first is the Future of Media, featuring Kim Alpert, Brice Helmen, and Joey Morelli. They talked about how things have changed in media since they started, most of which involved changing technology. Alpert

talked about how learning to do some of the work in these new technologies was when it clicked for her that the industry is always changing. As everything is improving, you always have to keep up with it. Morelli also gave advice about how to stay relevant in media and “keeping my finger on the pulse of what’s out there.” Overall they emphasized knowing your industry. It’s very important to know how to get your ideas heard, and as media continues to improve, so will the process.
Another great panel from HOF7 was Making the Connection: New Media and Content Distribution, hosted by Kim Craft. This featured Stephanie Berlanga, Aaron Ford, Bill Thompson, and Kristopher Nichols. This panel focused on the importance of getting your own content pushed out and how to prioritize utilizing the new technologies. While this panel provided information targeted at the music industry, learning the importance of getting your content out there there is a priceless. Overall they highly recommend self-publishing as the easiest and safest way to get your content out there.
The final panel was From File to Full Bleed: Designing for Physical Media. It was about how to get things from your screen to the billboards. It was hosted by Peter Soutullo and featured Jeff Matz, Dina Rodriguez, and Nick Sambrato. They spent time discussing past print campaigns and talking about what works and what doesn’t. Matz mentioned his past work. including his many clients that had requested a more traditional look when it came to their print design and branding, meaning it’s important to know what is out there. Rodriguez’s advice was to just start, don’t overthink the process, just to go for it and figure it out from there. Despite being primed for the Graphic Design student, a lot of the information overlapped to MCBS students as well.
Learning from previous panels can be a great way to get genuine advice for your industry. Don’t be afraid of going to panels that aren’t exactly targeted for you because they often overlap and provide you with amazing information that can help you better yourself and your work.
