Behind the Curtain with MCBS

mcbshof

While most students see Hall of Fame as a time away from normal classes to network and have new experiences, there are some students that have a great deal of hard work to do this week. Split into five different teams, the Media Communications (MCBS, as you have probably seen it shortened) students at Full Sail University find a way every year to balance work with play, and professionalism with fun, to create unique content for everyone to enjoy during Hall of Fame.

But who are these students that work behind-the-scenes? And what are they really creating this week?

I made it my mission to find out.

Content Development Team: Grant Thornton

The MCBS Content Development Team has been working in preparation for Hall of Fame for the past few weeks. Many of the logos and templates that can be seen both on campus and on social media were created by them.

As a member of the Content Development Team, Grant Thornton prepared for his second Hall of Fame by developing many of the social media templates that are currently being used by the MCBS Social Media Team. He is thankful that the hardest part of his job is actually over, and that he can enjoy Hall of Fame with a little more freedom in his schedule because of all the work he did ahead of time.

Grant thinks Hall of Fame is an incredibly exciting event, filled to the brim with activities and workshops that cannot be found anywhere else. He is an especially big fan of the technology and career expos that occur on campus during the week, because of the networking opportunities they provide.

Podcasting Team: Parker Gillett

When it comes to what the MCBS Podcasting Team is doing this week, look no further than the WeAreMCBS Podcast. If you haven’t found the time to listen to it yet, you absolutely should. Each morning, members of the team talk about the different highlights from Hall of Fame and convey unique information that you won’t be able to find anywhere else.

As a member of the Podcasting Team, Parker Gillett is spending her first Hall of Fame focusing on the opening of the Fortress. Fortress coverage involves interviewing e-sports players, as well as audience and staff members. Parker is also getting to cover certain panels and live events.

Parker is incredibly excited for the rest of Hall of Fame to take place and to see what other people have been creating this week. She knows that everyone, both in and out of MCBS, is working incredibly hard to make this Hall of Fame the best one yet and she is happy that she gets to be a part of that.

Production Team: Carson Eisen

The MCBS Production Team is busy filming a lot of content this week for students to enjoy. One of the biggest projects they’re taking on is shooting a social media interview series. If you’ve seen students running around with cameras and microphones this week, they were very likely a part of this team.

As a member of the Production Team, Carson Eisen is spending his second Hall of Fame and one of his last months at Full Sail finding the balance between preparing for graduation and working on shooting interviews. Carson says that he is excited to be working on Hall of Fame, even if it means having a little bit less time to some job hunting and determine his next step.

Carson really enjoys the concepts and ideas behind Hall of Fame. He appreciates that MCBS students are allowed to take on so many different roles this week and feels like the work he is doing with the Production Team is refreshingly meaningful. Carson sees Hall of Fame as something he cannot wait to return to as an alumni for many years to come.

Social Media Team: Gabriel Vanegas

The MCBS Social Media Team spends the entire Hall of Fame week creating and posting content for Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. They engage with the students of Full Sail on a mass level and spread the word on new events, activities, and materials.

As a member of the Social Media Team, Gabriel Vanegas (Gabe, for short) is spending his first Hall of Fame obtaining and creating content for Facebook and Instagram. This content includes photos, videos, and basic interviews. It’s an often hectic job, but it’s equally fun and rewarding.

Gabriel is grateful for the opportunity that Hall of Fame has provided him to interact with unique and professional individuals. As someone who is very into telling stories and motivating others, Gabe thinks Hall of Fame is an amazing time to expand your interests and show your own potential as a future employee, no matter what you’re interested in.

Writing Team: Sarah Babbage

As you have probably figured out by now, the MCBS Writing Team is all about telling the many stories of Hall of Fame through the written word. They convey information, reflect on events, and connect the many different elements of this wild week together into something that anyone--student or faculty, alumni or complete stranger--can read and enjoy.

As a member of the Writing Team, Sarah Babbage (yes, that’s me) is spending her second Hall of Fame (and first Hall of Fame as a Media Communications student) as both a writer and an editor. Much like every other MCBS student this week, her job is a busy one, but she greatly appreciates being given this chance.

Sarah has wanted to be a writer for a pretty long time now, and what she loves most about Hall of Fame this year is the opportunity this week has given her to focus on that dream and improve upon her skills. Hall of Fame is a busy time for many people, but Sarah sees it as a time of collective learning and growth for Full Sail. She has loved pushing her limits and getting out of her comfort zone to interact with everyone this week.

Sarah is especially thankful for everyone that has taken the time in their very busy schedules to have an interview with her and tell her about their Hall of Fame experiences. She urges everyone, whether you are an MCBS student or not, to keep an eye on the content that each MCBS team is producing. They worked really hard, and she’s really proud of them.
