This year at Full Sail, we are not only celebrating 40 years, but we also had our 10th annual Hall of Fame, so of course it’s going to be one of the biggest yet. With that in mind, we wanted to talk to the students from MCBS that are experiencing this important event for the first time and what they got out of said experience. We went around asking newcomers about what they enjoyed, their overall experience, and how it felt covering Hall of Fame for the first time.
Sophia Perez was part of the MCBS production team for Hall of Fame. She mainly focused on video interviews, and she had the opportunity to do interviews with Garry Jones, President of Full Sail; Beth Strudgeon, one of the many instructors in MCBS; artists that painted on the art wall at HOF; and other instructors and students from Full Sail. Her favorite panel was the panel Emily Wray had, which was called “Using the Power of Storytelling to Accelerate Your Career.” The panel focused on how students can talk about their skills and background to a future employer as a interesting story. Sophia’s overall experience was great because she had the opportunity to get hands-on experience when she was working with the production team. She learned about camera set-up and audio.
Kaleb Eichhorn was part of the MCBS content development team during Hall of Fame this year. The team’s job was to get content for the other teams, and to create a cohesive message for other teams to follow. He was in charge of creating content for Snapchat, which included things such as lenses, and he also did photography and digital editing for posters that were put up. His favorite panel was “Full Sail Alumni at Google and Facebook.” The panel focused on making yourself stand out from others that are pursuing the same job and goals. One thing he took away from his overall experience was how he applied himself to the opportunities he got, and how he was able to improve his skills, such as his photography skills.
Amirah Muhammad was part of the social media team during Hall of Fame for MCBS. She was the team lead for quality control on all social platforms including Instagram and Twitter. She got more work than expected, but she believes it was a great experience because she had the ability to work with a huge group of people. She did not get to go to a panel, but she did get to go to the food trucks. Her favorite one was ChiPhi, “A Taste of Two Cities.” That food truck offered food from two different cities, Philadelphia and Chicago, and included philly cheesesteaks. Something she took away from the overall experience was about having good work ethic, and how it doesn’t go unrecognized if you put your best foot forward.
Shantel Williams was part of the writing team during Hall of Fame. She was one of the content writers for this site you see with your very eyes. One of her favorite panels was “How to Produce a Buzzfeed Video.” The panel gave attendees the opportunity to get hands-on experience editing and producing videos, and since this is the career path she is interested in, she was happy she got the chance to be a producer. Her overall experience was epic, because she got to create and cherish new moments, and she worked on something that was on a larger scale.
Eileen Lagerblade was part of the podcasting team during Hall of Fame. Her position was team lead. One of her favorite panels was “Artists Working with Artists.” The panel focused on established artists talking about how they work, and how they try to give exposure to upcoming artists. This experience helped validate changes from her personal life and professional life. She enjoyed working in it because it wasn’t as demanding, and she got to experience as many activities as she could. Overall, it was interesting, because she got to meet many people doing what she wanted to do, and they gave advice to the people that were interested in the industry they were in.
There are more students that experienced Hall of Fame for the first time. Many were confused and stressed because they had to cover an event that they had never been part of before. Many stood up to the challenge and made the best of it. The MCBS family as a whole has poured their hearts out for the content that was created this week. I encourage you to check out what they made and covered throughout the week. Show your support because we wouldn’t be here without it. Thank you, and we will see you next year for Hall of Fame 11.
